Fiac NEW SILVER D 20/500 Rotary-screw Air Compressor

The FIAC NEW SILVER D 20/500 rotary-screw air compressor comes with a large capacity 500 L compressed air storage tank and it is capable of reaching a maximum pressure of 10 bar.

With a nominal power of 20 Hp, 15 Kw, it features a compressed air suction capacity of 1900 L/min. In addition, it’s equipped with a cycling refrigeration dryer mounted directly on top of the machine. Unlike classic piston air compressors, these air compressor models are also extremely silent, as the rotary-screw technology makes it possible to maintain very low noise emissions. Thanks to the non-stop productivity, they are suitable for use in machine shops, industries, etc.

Rotary-screw air compressors are perfect for those who need an continuous production of compressed air on a long term basis.

Models with rotary-screw technology are designed for heavy-duty, continuous use, such as in business or industry.

For full productivity of the machine, it will be necessary to bring the air compressor up to temperature when it is switched on. The process will take 7/8 minutes to reach full capacity. In addition, the maintenance operations of this air compressor model has been greatly simplified to allow the user to perform it in a few simple steps.

The operation of the air compressor can be described as follows:

  • The gas passes through a suction line created between the two rotors.
  • The rotation of the screws stops the input suction and the air is pushed towards the delivery output.
  • The screws are made in such a way as to progressively reduce the space between the rotors and the stator and this allows for an increase in pressure.
  • The last step of the operation concerns the expulsion of air from the discharge of the pump unit.

COMPACT F01 Air-end main features

The rotary-screw air compressors are particularly suitable for those environments that require a greater air flow rate and longer operating times. Unlike piston models, they do not require a rest period, but only an initial phase during which the air compressor must reach a suitable temperature to be able to deliver the maximum pressure and flow rate.

The new air-end of the NEW SILVER range ensures high efficiency and reliability. These models feature a single-stage compression unit cooled by fluid injection, designed to achieve a greater accessibility during maintenance operations. The components subject to wear have been reduced to allow maintenance to be carried out in total autonomy and avoid unnecessary interventions that could damage the machine.

There is an independent axial electric fan installed on the side of the machine. Together with the circuit board, these components allow the air compressor to work constantly even in non-optimal thermal conditions, thus ensuring a excellent efficiency of the entire cooling system.

The air-end and the electric motor are fixed on an anti-vibration base which eliminates the transmission of vibrations to the air compressor, so as to greatly reduce noise and mechanical stress on the fixed parts of the machine.

The frame is made of reinforced sheet metal with ribs. High density washable sound absorbing panels are installed on the sides.

Cycling refrigeration dryer

The cycling refrigeration dryer allows to filter and dry the compressed air produced by the machine: this process will produce better quality compressed air without any kind of residue, but above all, it will avoid the formation of condensation inside the tank and the occurrence of steam damage.

The atmospheric air sucked in by a compressor is a mixture of gas, steam and solid contaminants, and without the use of a treatment system these pollutants could reach the machines and create damage. The air also contains a certain amount of humidity, in greater amounts at higher temperatures. The accumulation of condensate can create problems and disturbances to the air compressor and, as mentioned above, also to the connected equipment.

For example: an air compressor with a operating pressure of 7 bar and a capacity of 200 L/s that compresses air at 20°C with a 80% relative humidity, injects 10 liters of water per hour into the compressed air line.

To avoid this, it is necessary to dry and filter the compressed air, especially in machines that produce air for long periods of time. The cycling refrigeration dryer allows to filter and dry the compressed air produced by the machine, this process will produce better quality compressed air without any kind of residue, but above all, it will avoid the formation of condensation inside the tank and the occurrence any steam damage.

The drying process, or cooling, compressed air allows it to condense, and subsequently separate large amounts of water. The air is re-heated after this process, thus avoiding the formation of condensation inside the tank. In addition, this heat exchange between the incoming and outgoing air also reduces the cooling capacity required by the circuit.

Using an air compressor without a dryer can cause various problems to the system or the connected equipment such as:

Corrosion of the equipment and piping system;
Damage to the pneumatic controls, with the possibility of safety shutdowns;
Need for continuous and excessive maintenance;
Possibility of icing when working at low temperatures;
Quality problems due to discoloration regarding paint adhesion.

The air compressor features a three-phase electric motor. The induction motor is characterised by a very long service life and low maintenance requirements. In fact, this motor is brushless, the brushes being the main component subject to wear in electric motors. The absence of this component grants high durability to the motor.
