Description

Smartwood PLT-200B wood pellet machine

The PLT-200B three-phase wood pellet machine is recommended for those who need to produce a large amount of pellet and require a safe and reliable machine entirely Made in Italy. The machine features a simple construction, the result of a precision engineering study confirmed by the tests made on different types of wood and more.

In order to obtain a high-quality pellet and maximum production efficiency, it is ALWAYS necessary to evaluate some factors regarding the wood:

  • Moisture content: of the wood
  • Grain size: of the wood
  • Type of die plate: i.e. the right compression according to the type/essence of the biomass

Each type of wood reacts differently during the thermoforming process. It is indispensable to consider the wood pellet machine as a tool, so it is imperative to use the right one according to the wood processed, i.e. the right die plate compression.

For the use of this model it is strongly recommended to connect the machine to a compressed air system, in order to evacuate the water vapour produced during pellet thermoforming and to maintain thermal equilibrium in the pelletising body. It is also possible to connect a small aspirator with sleeves to the loading hopper of the PLT-200B to remove any dust from the biomass feeding into the pellet machine.

The use of the wood pellet enable you to recycle the wood chips produced by your garden shredder or wood cutting machines in an extremely profitable way. You’ll be the able to to easily produce a high-quality energy-efficient fuel.

The correctly conditioned material is discharged from the die plate equipped with a material preloading part (inlet flaring), after which a cylindrical part (usually 6 mm diameter) will carry out the correct thermoforming of the product. This last part determines the degree of compression to give to the material to be pelletised.

It is essential to consider approaching the pelletising process methodically, considering the different dynamics of pellet thermoforming (type and/or essence of wood, grain size, moisture content, and possibly natural soil conditioners), in order to obtain a quality pellet and a satisfactory production yield suitable for the Kwh of the machine used.

The wood pellet machine is experiencing a steadily growing demand, as it was conceived as a consequence of the use of wood chippers, the disposal of green branches or carpentry waste.

Please note: sawdust and shavings from wood processing are excellent materials to be turned into pellets as they’re already dried.

Please note: sawdust and shavings from wood processing are excellent materials to be turned into pellets.

Branches and pruning waste can also be turned into pellets, after being properly treated and refined.

Highly important: pruning waste and twigs should be dried before shredding.

As the homogeneity of the grain size must be respected, we recommend prior processing of the biomass with a refiner or garden shredder equipped with a special grid of approximately 8 mm, in order to obtain a product that can be pelleted immediately, respecting the same fundamental dynamics for thermoforming, which are:

  1. The wood must already be dried HUMIDITY from 10 to 14% (depending on the wood type and the time of year for summer-winter pellets)
  2. First wood shredding: the first thing to do is to shred the wood coarsely with the garden shredder without using any sieve.
  3. Second wood shredding: re-enter the wood chips into the garden shredder. It is sifted through a suitable sieve (approx. 8 mm) in order to obtain the right grain size.
  4. Once the material has been properly conditioned (grain size, moisture content 10/14%) it can be fed into the machine to be pelleted.

Recommendations: foreign bodies of different diameters or pieces of iron will significantly affect the wood pellet machine and may cause sever damages and breakage of the machine.

Results may change depending on the type of wood and the wood chips drying level. Example: broad-leaved trees (beech, chestnut, oak, etc.) will require less compression than the H22 standard.

During pellet production process it is always necessary the presence of an Operator near the machine to feed it with wood, or using biomass dosing systems by means of our own feeders. However, the presence of an Operator is required anyway as the machine must be always controlled during use.

Technical features

The wood pellet machine, i.e. the machine that extrudes the pellets, features a flat rotating die with a 190 mm diameter.

A pair of rollers featuring 88 mm diameter and equipped with 2 bearings each ensures pressing the wood chips. Focus on the pressure rollers

The wood pellet machine, in order to ensure the highest-quality results, must be used with the specific die plate according to the type of biomass to pelletise.

Smartwood die plates are marked with an alphanumeric code that indicates the degree of compression.

The die plate (H22) supplied as standard with the PLT-200B is suitable for pelletising both softer and harder woods, taking care, however, to mix them in proportions appropriate to the tool mounted.

The machine is also equipped with a 3 Kg can containing a Smartwood special abrasive mixture, which is necessary to make the die plate ready to use by polishing it. This operation with the Smartwood Polish Die can be carried out every time a die is re-started, or after long periods of non-use, or for cleaning the die after incorrect use, which can lead to clogging.

The pellet machine is equipped with two holes on the sides for greasing the machine. Simply enter S3 V460 2 grease, by means of a manual pump, into the grease nipple and the exhausted grease will start to flow out of the tube. When the grease that escapes becomes the same colour as the new grease, this means that lubrication has been completed and carried out correctly. All spent material will then be collected in a convenient container.

The wood chips must be entered from the upper feeding hopper.

Hopper dimension:

  • Upper 37 x 26 cm
  • Base 19 x 19 cm

The pellet produced is discharged through the discharge chute.

The wood pellet machine hourly output varies between 120 and 150 Kg * and produces a pellet with a diameter of 6 mm.

(*The hourly output varies considerably according to the biomass used).

Overall dimensions:

Length: 750 mm;
Width: 580 mm;
Height: 1230 mm

Compressed air system

In order to optimise the hourly output and safeguard the life of the machine, it is strongly recommended, especially for those who use it more heavily, to connect the machine to a compressed air production system (compressor).

An air supply of 500/600 L/min and at least 6 bar pressure (approx. 5.5 kW compression) is recommended.

The air power must be adjusted according to the type of material we are using, the wetter it is, the more compressed air is required. It is necessary to pay particular attention to the air adjustment.

The system consists of a compressed air connection, two taps and a two-way distributor. As standard, the distributor is connected to a gun for manual machine cleaning on one side and a direct connection to the shredding chamber on the other one.

The two taps allow the air to be shut off at two different points, one for the main supply, the other to regulate the air flow to the chamber for the pellet production.

The air supply can be provided by any means, however, it is necessary a minimum flow rate of 500/600 L/m and at least 6 bar pressure.

To optimise the pellet machine production, it is possible to carry out the vapour extraction operation directly on the hopper by connecting a modular extraction system to it. Here too, the suction power should be adjusted according to the type of material being used, to prevent it from being suctioned in even before it enters the hopper.
