The potato digger is an agricultural machinery which can be towed by a tractor or connected to it via a three-point hitch; tractor-mounted potato diggers are used to dig potatoes out of the ground for harvesting.
Their large ploughshare, which covers most of the small size of the machinery, allows them to enter the soil, convey the product to the chute grate at the back of the machine and separate it from the soil by means of the oscillating sieve.
For the crop to be preserved for a long time, the potatoes must be dug carefully, avoiding damage such as cuts or dents.

In fact, the ploughshare penetrates the soil while the vibrating movement activated by the tractor's PTO facilitates the harvesting and cleaning of tubers and bulbs. The vibrating models provide for the digging out of more than 98% of the potatoes, increasing the productivity of the harvest. Operation is performed by a vibrating sieve, which removes soil residues left over from the extraction.
The “universal” models guarantee 85% efficiency, but their great advantage lies in their value for money.
This is due to its simplicity of construction. In fact, the operation of this model is very similar to that of a simple rake, and there is no need for connection to the tr-actor's power take-off.
Finally, models with a conveyor belt are equipped with a belt system, where the harvested tubers slide, and which enables the removal of residual soil very effectively
